The Taekwondo belt uses Obangsaek (five cardinal colors). During the 1970s, secondary colors were included within the ranks to further motivate the progression of trainees.
오방색 O-bang-saek

Each color represents 4 cardinal directions and the center.
하양 Ha-yang
White
Represents east
빨강 Ppal-gang
Red
Represents south
노랑 No-lang
Yellow
Represents the center
검정 Geom-jeong
Black
Represents north

경례 Gyeong-lye
Bowing to show courtesy and respect to another person, such as the opponent, or the Korean flag.
기합 Ki-hap
Shout or yell incorporated with a Taekwondo technique. Also used to express fierceness.
막기 Mak-gi
Blocking.
지르기 Ji-reu-gi
Punching.
차기 Cha-gi
Kicking.
호신술 Ho-sin-sool
Self-defense martial art.
격파 Gyeok-pa
Breaking objects such as wooden boards or blocks to demonstrate strength and skill in Taekwondo.
